SDS Management System
Anyone have a ballpark cost of an SDS management system? Making my budget request for next year.

Back in 2019 (last time I purchased one), we used MSDSOnline and it was $3,200/year.

I looked into this a couple years ago & it was all over the map. Anywhere from a couple thousand to over $60k. Most seem to do the same thing with not a lot of different options. We ended up with a more expensive system because we wanted something we could do inventory, receiving & tracking of the chemicals we were bringing on-site/storing/using with expirations as well.

Hey Michael,
I just purchased a new SDS management system in March; I shopped about 12 companies, and even trialed some. The total cost is going to depend on a few things, total number of SDS’s being the largest. The 2nd factor, is whether you want the company to update and keep the SDS’s “live” or if you plan to do that manually as the SDS’s change. We have around 1,000 SDS’s and we landed with a full managed service, around $10,000. (Fantastic) This also included a few extra features, like SDS approval, where people in my company can submit SDS’s for products they are wanting to bring in, and it would go through an approval process, as well as my final sign off, making sure haves the correct layers of controls for that product, and then make sure we complete the appropriate documentation for ISO 14001, and 45001, updated environmental/emergency plans (if needed), prior to bringing the product to site; as well as some data analytic dashboards, etc
Many of the self managed platforms, with no additional “features” with around 1,000 SDS’s was between $3000-$5000.

Check out the SDS service from U S Compliance. I can make an introduction, if necessary.

It really depends on the features you want and the size of your SDS file. MSDSonline (EHS Velocity) is the original and the industry "leader". They are the most experienced but also tend to be the most expensive and may not be the best "value". I used MSDSonline for many years prior to them being bought by EHS V. At least one of my customers are MSDSonline customers but are tired of getting price increases and they are shopping around.
There is a lot of competition and new sources coming out all the time. Some sponsor this blog! Some are "hungry" and will work with you on lots of things including price! Many tend to be based in Canada and Europe (England and Ireland esp).
Two of my customers are very happy with EcoOnline and you have to go no further than our own Branden Raczkowski, of SK fame.
I have one customer that got a system for about $2000 with 400 SDS. Another very small customer with only 50 SDS got a system for under $1000. Prices go up from there! Shop around and negotiate no matter what they tell you initially (very very competitive market!!!!!)
Be careful of some of these companies, they will low ball you and then jack the price up once on board!

Prices vary, however, U S Compliance has a good SDS Manager product. Reach out to me via LinkedIn, if you want me to connect you with them www.linkedin.com/in/benjamin-martin-m-a-csp-65360114

Just wrapped an implementation system depending on how large the organization is and quantity of chemicals. A good range assessment is 10k to 50k. Velocity EHS platform is a good system. I have no ties to them but have used them at a couple of stops along the way.
What system did you end up with? I'd be interested in what people are leaning towards...
