Training Matrix
My previous employer had a very specific set of training they required for every foreman and above. (Construction)
In my new role at a different, much smaller company there just isn’t any kind of formal training. I want to change that. Here is what I have come up with so far….
Excavation
Confined space
Fire extinguisher
Flagger
Ladders
Forklift
Rigging
MUTCD
Silica
Tool SOP’s
Powder actuated tools
Other things worth mentioning….
Overhead power lines
PPE selection and use
Respirators and what they do
What is a competent person
Unsafe conditions
Plants/animals/flammable stuff
It’s worth mentioning what kind of work we do. We install fiber mainline and drops. Very little aerial work. Mostly cable plows, mini ex’s, rubber tire backhoes, and directional drills.

Mark,
When creating your training matrix, be sure to add in your OSHA required training as well.
What I did was start with the required by OSHA. Then went to our industry specific. While doing this I broke it down by which departments needed what.
For example we are a Generation and Transmission Electrical company. I broke down between generation, transmission, and corporate or office workers if that’s how you would want to call it. Then I went further and specified each group within generation and transmission. (Managers, Supervisors, specific fields). This gave our training department a good idea on who needs what online training and who needs to go to the in person trainings as well.
I hope this helps!

You could model your training after the OSHA 10/30 for construction (contact hours wise). We do that at my company and it works really well - we don’t actually issue OSHA 10 cards though, just model our training after it
Mark,
Check out BuildWitt. They have some very informative video content on several of those topics. Great platform for tracking and dissemination of the info too. I’d have to recommend Drew Hinton for things like confined spaces, forklifts, silica, and rigging.
Best of luck,
RS

Hi Mark,
OSHA has a document that has a list of training requirements for each standard. Here's a link
https://www.osha.gov/sites/default/files/publications/osha2254.pdf.

I just made on in Excel!
You want my template send your email to me. fitz@safetyfitz.com
Many safety software companies have matrix in their training modules.
