Helium Safety - Time to Party?
Part of why I love my job is the left field questions.
This one has me stumped. Is there anything I should be concerned about regarding a helium tank (from Walmart, to blow up balloons)? Compressed gasses are not my forte.
The one they want to get has the guard around the regulator and is only 14.9cuft in size.

I would say follow the guidelines for general compressed gas safety.
The SDS I looked at for Helium doesn't show any additional hazardous properties in itself, but check the one you have on hand to verify. Also make sure you have one for it.

I would reach out to whoever supplies your gas and see how they would recommend storage and handling. It's an interesting question for sure seeing how helium is an inert gas.

The local fire code might also mention something. Chapter 53 of the international fire code covers compessed gases. These helium cylinders are very common in schools.
If you stick with Helium you won’t have to worry about recreating the Hindenburg!
