Hazardous Waste
Hi Safety Pros,
My company is looking at possibly building an area outside of the building, possibly connected, for our chemical waste storage. I have reached out to our waste management company and waiting to see if they have resources but I am curious if anyone can point me in the right direction for regulations on this. Thank you in advance
I should add this is flammable liquid waste

Hi, Abby!
I'm not sure if you've come across this yet, but I think there's a lot of helpful information here:
https://www.epa.gov/hwgenerators/steps-complying-regulations-hazardous-waste

D001 waste? Also would it be in totes? If it’s in totes you’ll want to make sure you have at least 300 gallons of containment capacity in the building (which means you may need a floor trench).
You also may need to apply for an EPA ID number of you plan on shipping more then 1000 kgs per month of haz waste

I work in the waste and garbage field. If you use a large national hauler (Waste Management, Republic Services, Waste Pro or Waste Connections) they may have the resources to handle it. If you use a smaller locally owned hauler they likely won't be able to dispose of it. Hazardous waste has to be disposed of separately from standard non-hazardous or municipal solid waste. Also if this chemical waste is in liquid form, you may need to solidify to before anyone would haul it away. So for flammable and liquid it would need to go to a hazardous waste disposal site. It will cost significantly more than standard waste.

For non-containerized waste use this link: https://www.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2015-07/documents/con-bld05_0.pdf
