Never had a mentor or mentored anyone in the Safety Field...would be open to it though

I've never been part of a program but would like to be.

I answered no - never taken on an official mentor, but have worked alongside and under some talented and knowledgeable people who showed me the basics. I do think a formal mentorship is necessary in the field, and I bet we start seeing more of it

I was thrown into fire when I started in safety. I had a short 2 day orientation then next thing I knew I was the sole safety professional on a major construction site. There was a big learning curve and needless to say I had to learn alot really quickly.
I never liked that so in the past once a year I'd take on an intern from a local college. It was unpaid but they helped me take care of basic safety things, and I was able to train and mentor them. This I hoped would better prepare them for the workforce. It gave them the real world experience that alot of college prep doesn't.

I answered my own question: Yes, both!
I have been on both sides of the mentorship equation. During my undergraduate studies, I was mentored by an amazing public health professional who helped me focus on my skills and make connections - ultimately landing a career in industrial hygiene/safety. She set me up with some insane informational interviews (cannot share personal details, but let's just say they are doing pretty important things). As a graduate student, and now in my career, I have informally mentored others and it has been a great experience. I love helping others understand a concept or develop a skill while also gaining new experiences myself.
