Mobile equipment check off verification.
We are trying to find a better way to know if a crane or forklift inspection has been done at a quick glance.
We have a physical log book for the pre shift inspections but have also thought it may be good to start implementing a light indicator that could have green yellow and red lights on the piece of equipment that indicate the status of that equipment. We want to make it so that the indicator can be changed by the operator and so that the light can be set to a timer that shuts the indicator off after a period of time. Any other ideas?

Do you think a digitised prestart checklist would be feasible as opposed to a light? Warning I'm going to plug my own product here!
SAFE365 included a fully customisable checklist feature as part of the package, so if every worker had the app on a phone (if feasible to have on the job) all a manager or supervisor would need to do is quickly check on the web console to see wether or not all required prestarts had been completed.
Takes about 2 minutes to check, and takes away the possibility that people are just flicking the light switch and getting on with the job.

Josh, great question.
Apart from the regulatory frequent/periodic inspections a pre-site evaluation can be done by the maintenance team once equipment arrives onsite before put in use on the site that way any issues are identified the post would need to be found by the operator. On mobile cranes we applied a sticker, date, name (not the annual).
The light indicator is a good idea, but the daily inspection applies to each operator as well as you added another maintenance to your existing schedule.

I like your idea! If the light is hard to implement, you could always use a colored wristband like at concerts. Each day could have a corresponding color so you know it was not forgotten from the day before. Another cheap alternative following the same principle is attaching a laminated sleeve and inserting a colored placard for each day.

I think the light idea is brilliant. A clear visual indicator if a daily inspection has been done. And I’m sure you can buy something like that on Amazon for pretty cheap. Have you trie it out yet? If not, definitely let me know how it works for you. I love it, definitely tempted to do it myself too
