Digger/Derrick Truck Requirments?
Does anybody know OSHA's requirements for an employee to operate a digger/derrick truck with an auger attachment? Certifications? Or just training? Additionally, any requirements for bucket trucks?
Thanks!

For bucket trucks, look at standards 1910.66(i) and (j), 1910.67(c)(2)(ii), ANSI A92, ANSI Z133 3.3.4.
Bucket truck initial training is prior to operating a bucket truck or If adequate previous experience, under supervision of a competent operator/trainer. Refresher training should occur every 3 years (OSHA usually refers to Forklift standards for refresher requirements). Training needs to be classroom and hands on (may be OJT training).
Training must include the following:
• Hazard awareness involving the use of bucket trucks in the workplace
• Load limitations for the specific type of bucket truck used, to include intended loads and load capacity
• Manufacturer requirements for the specific type of bucket trucks used
• How to operate bucket trucks safely
• How and when to perform bucket trucks inspections
• Emergency action plan procedures
In addition, a member must complete retraining if any of the following occurs:
• Member is involved in an accident while using a MEWP
• Member engages in unsafe and/or improper use of a MEWP
In addition, when working at height of more than 4-feet of bucket truck/mobile elevated work platform (MEWP) you will need fall protection and rescue training.

In regards to regulations, please see below. Of course the worker must still follow rules under the manufacturer's guidelines and receive hands on training and be signed off as knowing how to properly use the equipment by a competent person as well as meeting regulatory training requirements.

"ATTACHMENTS: Equipment that is covered under
the standard continues to be covered when used with
crane-attached or crane-suspended attachments.
Such attachments include, but are not limited to:
hooks, magnets, grapples, clamshell buckets, orange
peel buckets, concrete buckets, drag lines, personnel
platforms, augers or drills, and pile driving equipment."
Additionally:
"■ Attachments and rigging hardware must meet the
criteria specified in section 1431(g)."
This is based on the OSHA FEDERAL requirements. If your attachments meet those guidelines, I would still check with your local office to ensure that there aren't additional requirements in addition to the federal ones.
I hope this helps!
