The bigger lead acid batteries can be recycled or even reclaimed for a little $$. We just use waste management for the smaller alkaline batteries

That depends on what type of batteries we are talking about.
If it is for your Power Industrial Trucks then use a third party vendor, we use the company that repairs ours to do all of this.
If it is for the AED I usually take them to Lowe's recycling center at the customer desk.
If it is for our scanners then we cover the contacts with tape put them in a 5 gallon bucket with Date of start collection, and what's inside. If it is smaller batteries like a 9volt we tape those as well or put them in separate zip lock baggies and put them in a container with the date and what's inside on lid. These can only be kept this way for a year, so plan on a pick up.
