Anyone check out the 2019 BLS fatality data?

It always baffles me how skewed the data always is towards transportation related fatalities. Anyone have thoughts as to why it’s so disproportionately high? Distracted driving, more businesses relying on transport (amazon, Uber, etc.)?

I'm on there every year, as we keep those updated in our trainings for various hazards. I agree the huge volume of reporting and spreadsheets is super fun for data nerds! I also appreciate that they consolidate all their links to state data and make it easy to hop over there too.
Lots and lots of product/material is moved by trucking. Come spend some time on the 710 north of the port of Long Beach CA and you’d understand. I think that sheer volume coupled with the high risk of driving is what makes that fatality number so high. Comparatively, the level of risk associated with driving would require mitigations and management approval at a heavily regulated facility such as refinery or chem plant.

That is interesting.
