1.0 Purpose and Scope
1.1 This program establishes safety requirements and minimum safe work practices for all Powered Industrial Vehicles, which includes but is not limited to Forklifts, Aerial Boom Lifts, Powered Elevated Working Platforms (Scissor Lifts), Powered Hand Trucks, and Personnel Vehicles (Golf Carts).
1.2 This program is applicable to all company owned or leased PIVs, as well as any PLENCO employee or contract worker that operates them.
1.3 This procedure does not apply to PIVs owned and operated by contractors unless operated by PLENCO full time or temporary employees.
2.0 Program Requirements
2.1 Operator Competency Determination

HS600-2.1 Ensure all PIV trainees and operators are competent to safely operate a PIV. Regulatory
2.1.1 Only persons age 18 years or older may operate a PIV.
2.1.2 Each facility is responsible for making certain all PIV operators are capable of safely operating their vehicle.
2.1.3 Operators must be instructed of their obligation to inform their supervisor or site HR of any medical condition or change in condition that may affect their ability to operate a PIV in a safe manner. This includes issues regarding operator mobility, injury, use of medications, or vision impairment.
2.2 Operator Certification

2.2.1 Prior to operating any PIV, operators must be certified by the site as having successfully completed training and evaluation for each type of PIV they are authorized to operate. (See also Section 3.0 - Training).
