Hand safety initiative
Since hand injuries continue to be a leading trend in general industry, my facility is driving hand safety with as much passion as possible. We are looking for all sorts of new ways to keep hand safety at the front of people’s minds. What do you do for hand safety awareness at your locations and how receptive is your team?

All great answers. Really looking for more responses from a training standpoint than from a PPE standpoint. As I’m sure many of you do, we like to think of PPE as a last line of defense that we can’t rely on to keep our hands safe. We want to grow hand safety attentiveness and are looking for hints and tips that can help with that.
I like the gloves with orange finger tips to draw attention the finger placement.
I’d also introduce work site discussions about positional and line of fire awareness to keep attention on proper body positioning (lessen risk of cutting, crushing or striking yourself or others). Also encourage workers to talk as they work through job steps to encourage them to think about what they are doing. If you have certain commonly performed jobs, maybe stage a demonstration and have workers discuss the best body positioning to guard against tool slips.

Again working with guys on the floor, gives you a lot, however keep in mind you cant please everyone and have 200 kinds of gloves, 20 styles of earplugs, but working side by side will narrow proper choices. Also don't through a ton of videos and stuff. Tell them personally.
We created a Glove Board, which is 1 piece to a 7 piece hand safety program. The glove board has built in hooks that the gloves hang from and have types of work that they should be used for. This is a good visual piece to keep outside of the tool room or in the break area.

This is a great post, interested to hear what other people are doing. One thing we did last year was have a vendor come out to take a look at the gloves we are currently using, and recommend alternatives or ways we could consolidate to help better manage our PPE. It was not as "salesy" as you might think, and was overall a great learning experience
