Subcontractor Vetting
For those of you who hire subcontractors to conduct work at your location or a customer location, what process do you use to vet the subcontractor before approving them for work?
Our company looks at their OSHA citations, EMR, TRIR and LTIR rates along with their safety programs/training, running them through a series of questions. We use BLS industry averages to compare them, but have our own requirements as well.

A former employer did all of the steps you have referenced. In addition, the contract requestor would have to document that the contractor was capable of performing the scope of the contract.

We check references. Past work and habits. Also must have a solid confined space program or whatever is related to the job they are doing. Also they go through a safety video and booklet and sign off.

Honestly we just find a couple contractors we like and stick to them. Trust their judgement that the subs they pick are solid. We’re not construction so we don’t deal with too many subcontractors unless it’s a bigger project (which is rare)

We use ISNetworld for vetting.
