Fall Protection Question
Hey everyone! We build industrial electrical systems and our guys have to climb on top of the units to install bus bars. This leads to them being on top of an unprotected edge that is probably like 7'. The problem I am finding is that there is nowhere overhead or on the unit to put an anchor point. The unit is in a very open area so that it can be moved by the overhead crane. Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated!

Since your job sites change, and if there's no way to install a beam clamp or cross arm strap, I'd recommend a mobile fall protection system. Malta Dynamics has them for rent, or you can purchase them if it's more feasible based on how often you would use it.

Drew's option is probably the best one. Another thing that we've done when working on rooftop units is to build scaffolding around them - but that takes time and expertise that may not always be feasible.
If the work can be reached from the inside of a scissor lift, there are anchor points on the inside of the work platform.

Great comments from those on this post! I have the same problem so thank you for your input !

There are some good suggestions here - one other one separate from what’s been shared is inviting someone from maybe 3M Fall Protection Specialist to see what equipment is offered that would work for you. The nice thing is talking through it with them and getting eyes on the working area/hazards/solutions. I’ve used them for our site and we’re similar - lots of working from from heights to with difficult to access or mo anchorage points.
Malta Dynamics Grabber, I consider it my sky hook. Hand rails, fall restrictions, tie off to something in the middle top of the unit so can’t fall off.
