Have you seen the light?
Good morning fellow Safety Superstars,
I am fairly lost on this one. I have been tasked with identifying the proper light to use for maximum ground coverage at our boxsites (convenience centers - the place in your neighborhood where you go to drop off trash). no I'm not talking about on the side of a dark road.
I have little experience in this realm is there anyone who has any suggestions? I thought about looking to sports field lighting.
I believe the goal is not to light the entire area of the boxsite but to illuminate the area of the dumpsters. We are not looking to place a multitude of lights around the entire site.
Less lights (in quantity) less poles, more coverage.

I can’t provide any guidance on this one but an option that I’ve used for some things is my Grainger - typically they have vendor resources or subject matter experts in those areas that will visit the site and provide guidance without the sales pitch. Allowing you to decide what’s best with their insight. There can be a bit of a pitch to it with some but most of my experiences have been positive.
I recommend what Vincent said. It sounds like you need a permanent solution. I would research companies and their reviews who can do the work. Bring them to a typical area where they will be installed, ask a ton of questions, research the options you are given by the vendor, sort the knowledge from the sales tactics, make a choice and run with it. That's how I usually approach a safety puzzle that's not typical, do your homework that you can then bring in someone who can make a solid recommendation and give you the knowledge you don't have to fill the need that you have. Once you have a good choice, consider:
1. Is there enough power in the area to run to the light
2. If not, what's the upgrade cost to the nearby panel
3. Does the light meet or exceed any applicable standards
4. Consider the product's (once picked) interaction with local building codes with the dumpster layout markings. Does the installation interfere with any parking spots or ADA stuff. etc.

Hopefully you can use this resource as a starting point. Section 9.9 is on lighting.
