Shipping lead acid batteries/universal waste
Story time of a lesson learned: A few years ago, I barked super aggressively at some techs who were insisting on picking up a load of universal waste batteries. I told them that a hazmat-endorsed driver, placards, etc. were required because while it’s not considered hazardous waste (but rather universal waste), it’s a hazmat item falling under DOT hazmat regulations.
Later I found out they ignored me and picked up the batteries anyways - then I was really frothing at the mouth! Uncool!
But come to find out - there’s an exemption! None of us knew that at the time, but if you package and ship the batteries in the specifically-described manner, you don’t have to have a haz-endorsed driver or placards. The graphic describes the exemption, and the link below gives you even more specifics.

Wow, It's been years since I have done anything with Hazmat but I never knew that either!

What a great tip!
