Raw Sewage Material Handling
Have an upcoming bid for a project that accidentally ran raw sewage over their systems fill media. They are requesting removal & replacement of this fill media. This is a first in our industry.
From a safety perspective, I cannot help to think that their is additional requirements required for working in the removal of this fill media.
A couple questions?
What training is required by law to complete this type of work?
What is a best practice for training & PPE, as other requirements?
My thought process leads me to a decontamination shower, wearing of Nomex suits, & potentially respirators.
Any information would help.

It's hard for sure in regards to what's all inclusive for your area, but I would recommend checking with your local enforcement agency. OSHA, EPA, DOL, etc since it may vary from state to state.
I would imagine RCRA, Hazwoper, and DOT (49 CFR 172 and 177 if transporting)at a bare minimum.
The company I work for offers these 3, along with a bunch of others that might help, but we legally can't tell you what you need. Feel free to shoot me an email at CP@ComplianceTrainingOnline.com if you want direct links to these courses for more details on those regulations.

I work at a water utility, and we sometimes have broken wastewater lines involved in our water main break repairs. We do infection control training in-house for this type of work, but it's typically a short session following universal precaution methods. Staff wear rubber boots, tyvek or other body protection, impermeable gloves. Not typically respirators. If it's bad we'll have an air monitor to watch for H2S, but it rarely gets that high after a spill in soil. We use separate tools that we don't then use on our treated water system unless they've been disinfected with a bleach solution. We also offer Hep B vaccines to employees (which most decline or already have) for this plus some other exposure pathways they encounter, so you may not need that in this case. I hope that helps!
