You're not going to believe this!!!
We had one of our newer K9 officers had an incident on Monday that I just needed to share with the world. Okay, well not the world, but at least all of you.
So...the new K9 officer just got done doing some training and as he and his dog are walking back to the truck, he inadvertently steps the leash, loses his balance, and trips over his dog. How did the dog react? He reacted by biting him on the knee landing him in the ER.
The worst part about it is today I got the return-to-work release and Workers' Compensation form. The ER doctor put him on a week of light-duty effectively making this our first OSHA recordable injury for the year.
But LIGHT DUTY? SERIOUSLY???
Okay, the venting session is over. Now back to your regularly scheduled Safety Knights dashboard posts

That sucks! I guess the LEO gets to be on dog washing duty or filing police reports for the next week!

I would give that go a hard time just because he's a cop. However, I've done some pretty stupid stuff during my time as a firefighter to hurt myself.
I am ALWAYS against sending employees to the ER. They give out light duty and days off like it’s candy!

Holy cow....would love to listen to the RCA team at your workplace.

Ok, just wow! It's great to ventilate among your safety peers. We all have some of these days.
Recently I've had several restless nights sleeping after the comments an employee told me about holding on the side of the "funnel" type metal box on top of a grinder to NOT get cut on the rotary blades. He was demoing for me how he follows the loto procedure. When I asked how he knows if the blade still moves, he said only a little. We've just started using locks and tags in the past year, but I've been here 5 years. It took total Emotional IQ for me not to show my emotions. I simply said, we will make this better to ensure you have a barrier in place so that doesn't happen. I will contact the machine manufacturer to find out how what they recommend.

They're not going to live that down. LOL!
Did it break the skin? Having been bitten myself at the age of 2, and around others who have been bitten over the course of several decades, you really can't mess with the ones that break skin. I've seen horrible bites that were "ok" and some not as much that ended up with major infections. And yes, I do still love dogs and I'm not afraid of them. LOL!
Sucks though. Glad they're ok!
