Not Good The Worst Machine!
Saw this to the right of front page! I hate rollers! One of the worst machines to guard human beings ever created! I just saw them at a customer a couple weeks ago. I just cringed! My advice to the customer was to get rid of that machine ASAP, and find another way! Either that or invest in a $50K Laser PSDI system.
Ironically, OSHA did accept a trip wire system for these types of machines! To me that is just dumb, as when I hit the trip wire I have already lost at least one hand! That is why I hate these!
Not good record by this company.
First inspection is the one the article refers. Two Serious and two Willfuls.
Willfuls are for
1910.147(C)(4)(I) Lockout Procedures (lack of)
1910.212(a)(1) Point of operation guarding (lack of)
Serious:
1910.147(c)(6) Lockout - Periodic Inspection (lack of)
1910.145(c)(3) Safety inspection signs (lack of)
The last serious one I had to look up! I never have seen or heard of anyone being cited for that one!

Tom,
I am right in the middle of a heated battle with my current employer over roller nips!! Basically, I need a 2-channel safety circuit upgrade to allow for the proper system to function under Performance Level d (ISO 13849-1:2023). This would allow me to install things like the Laser PSDI system and test them correctly.
The OSHA standard is outdated with the pull cords and remote resets. We must remember as professionals that E-stops and cords are not safeguards and only a reactive measure. Let's say a passive system.
I am currently not winning even after bringing in Rockwell Automation to verify we were correct, and yes, we were correct in needing the upgrade. The upgrade is a Million+ or accept the inherent risk that we have.
If you need help in this department, I have some experience with it as I have implemented many of this scanning system over the past 6 years.

Can you explain what a laser psdi is ?
