June National Safety Month Activities
We rolled out new core values this year and each month one department presents info about their department to the company to offer more transparency throughout the company.
I have been given June as my month to present safety. I plan to do CPR classes and hands on fire extinguisher training. Also plan to bring my dog in who is well known at my company from the monthly safety topics. What other trainings or fun ideas for safety month could we do? I had one idea of bringing in a axe throwing trailer cause its a fun activity that always includes safety training before you can begin. It would be the only time I would applaud an employee for throwing something sharp. Thoughts? Any ideas are welcome!
Thank you

Not sure where your sites are located, but at my previous employers, we tried to do fun activities like you're doing with the axe throwing trailer. For example, a lot of our crews used personal fall protection a lot, so we did "carabiner races", where we had a variety of different carabiners with different locking mechanisms (e.g., triact lock, screw lock, twist lock (even through OSHA doesn't allow twist lock carabiners for PFASs), etc.). This got them comfortable with the different carabiners out there on the market, and we'd have two people at a time go head-to-head to see who could latch all 5 carabiners onto the rod. We'd time it and make it a competition amongs the entire group of field service employees. The person with the fastest time would be the winner and would get some type of prize (e.g., gift card, Yeti tumbler, etc.).
Since we had sites down in Louisiana where it gets hot in the summer, we did a modified version of "flip cup" (the drinking game), but used water (instead of alcohol). We had two teams of three people, one team on each side of the table, who'd play the "flip cup" game to make it a fun way to emphasize proper hydration. We'd continue playing until we had the final winner, then would give each person on the winning team a prize.

Great Post Matt!
I got a new boss that came on board about 10 years ago in early May, Soon after she started she asked me what we were doing for National Safety Month? I must have looked liked a "deer in the headlights". She simply said, "I expect a better look on your face and answer one week from today, including your plans!" I had to scramble to get a plan together! It went OK but not the best and not a way you want to start withe a new boss The next year I tried to put it together but waited till late March to start planning. Better but still rushed but better!
The third year I included it with planning my overall "Safety Year" which I started in November and always finished by January 1 of the next year. It went well so I always did it then, that is why I said you are about 6 weeks late. I usually did not consult NSC till April to wrap things up. to see if their topics matched mine.
The NSC, you know the Green Cross People:

I just checked and cannot find much for 2024.
My Corporation never elected to join the NSC so I always got there free stuff. I took my OSHA 501 Class at the NSC in Aurora, Ill headquarters (excellent course). Anyways they usually have all the topics laid out for you. I never followed exactly but used what I thought was good and used other stuff I out together. If you are a member they have lots of stuff.
I would recommend using NSC. It does not look like they have much up for 2024 yet. Although it is on their 2024 Calendar. Maybe in a few weeks!
