Pop-up Eyewash Stations
The portable eyewash stations (ones not plumbed into the water system)... what types of inspections need to occur on these?
I know for plumbed stations, we should do weekly and annual. But what about these portable ones? Just ensure that the fluid is not expired?
Thank you for your expertise!

For the most part, they require the same inspections as plumbed ones with the exception of the weekly activation test. Aside from that, the ANSI Z358.1 standard doesn't separate most of the requirements based on whether it's plumbed or not. However, you typically always refer to the eyewash station manufacturer for inspection procedures.
For self-contained eyewash stations (non-plumbed), ANSI says refer to the manufacturer's inspection requirements, but at a minimum, visually check it weekly to determine if the flushing fluid needs to be changed or supplemented, based on manufacturer's instructions. It's also still required to have the annual inspection conducted in accordance with ANSI Z358.1. Other than that, just make sure it's not obstructed, damaged, and within 10 walking seconds (~55 feet) of the hazard.

Drew is right on again.
If you have eye wash stations a great investment is ANSI Z358.1. $65. Certainly one of the "value" ANSI Standards. An ANSI Standard handy is always a great thing to pull out when someone is hassling you about "having to so do something!" When I was a site manager I had over a dozen eye wash stations. Now as a consultant I see them all the time. I have referenced this one in particular quite a lot over the many years I have been in the business!

The thing about the non-plumbed eyewash systems is that the sterilization fluids tend to settle out. If possible, your best bet is to shake them up every Friday, Woo, Hoo, it's Friday.
Same for plumbed systems that develop mineral deposits, It's good to deploy the water through the system at least once a week to prevent the buildup of mineral deposits from being the first from hitting of the eye. I mean, think about it, your eye already feels like it is on fire and the first thing you hit it with is shrapnel.
I've found the reminder to work the system at least once a week is 'It's Friday, 'Woo Hoo!'.
