OSHA Cites Company under the General Duty Clause for a Workplace Violence Incident
This is the first time I have seen this.

We are currently developing a workplace violence prevention plan for our California locations (must be in place by July 1). While researching the program, I came across this press release for a citation related to workplace violence in a correctional facility.
Has anyone else come across an incident like this? Thinking of expanding the scope of our project to include all US locations now.

I have a friend and former coworker who used to be a CSHO for Kentucky and Indiana OSHA. I remember him telling me about citing a company under the GDC due to an active shooter/murder incident at a store.
You don't see this often, though, so thanks for sharing!

Our state program (applies only to public employees) has a WPV standard that we actually had a visit for today.
I think we will see more regulatory activity in institutional settings like the prison in your link or in hospitals.

When I train OSHA Outreach there is a required OSHA component. We cover 5A! I tell my students,
"When an employee is injured another name for General Duty 5A is what OSHA refers to as, 'The Standard that if we cannot get you any other way, we get you here! It says you will keep your employees safe from injury. Since you didn't do what is required, ew will use this!' "
