Tense Moments?
Today on SN there was a question on the posting of 1910.95. That reminds me:
About 10 years ago we had an OSHA CHSO show up at our plant on an employee complaint. The CHSO told me he just intended for a quick visit as it seemed to him a minor incident. I did not feel I needed to involve any other management personnel, so we went to my office which was next to the hallway from the Main Employee Entrance. Along this hallway was our Employee Bulletin Board with all the legally required posters. Sitting at my desk I could normally clearly see the OHSA Poster and the Hearing Conservation Poster.
As the CHSO sat down in front of my desk I looked over his shoulders. To my horror the entire board across the hallway from my office including the OSHA and HC Posters was empty. In fact, you could see the cleaner sections of the board that had been covered up. The only thing I could think to do was to say, “I need a cup of coffee. You want one or a bottle of water?” I thought he would decline but said, “Black coffee would be great!”
So, I excused myself and ran down to the HR Office. I knew there were two HR Assistants there and they had the keys to the locked Bulletin Boards. I walked in and said, “Look ladies I do not know why you picked this morning to clean the Bulletin Boards, but I have an OSHA Compliance Officer in my office, not 10’ away from where the OSHA Poster must be! I am going to take him out in the plant for 20 minutes! Find it and get it back up on the board! It is a poster with blue and green on it and it says OSHA all over it! If you cannot find it go online and find another is called, simply the OSHA Poster! Try OSHA.gov.
So, I take the guy out in the plant and when we come back the OSHA Poster is back up, but it has clearly been all crumpled up from being thrown in the trash! The CHSO sees it and laughs like crazy! He says, “I wondered why you got me out of your office so quickly! I was suspicious! Now I know. Just when you think you have seen it all!”
Nothing came of that visit.
How about you? Tense moments?

Haha, that's funny! Gotta watch those HR folks! 😉

Great story. It shows that CSHO are people and can see the humor in things.

We had a FMCSA inspection once a few years back. The inspector spent 2 days working with us only to have a computer virus attack the FMCSA computer system and thus his computer was wiped and he lost his entire report he compiled during the two days with us. Needless to say, we were not overly concerned as we try and do our best at being compliant. But it was a relief still as anything he did find was lost and he could not spend anymore days with us. So we ended up getting a satisfactory rating regardless.
