October Safety Topic - Halloween

What if I told you, this adorable 20-pound pumpkin made a 10 year old in a power ranger costume cry last year? I wish I was kidding, but not all children are prepared for a barking pumpkin. Want to know something scary? Kids are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car on Halloween than on any other day of the year. Spooky scary time is awesome, but you know what’s not awesome? The fact that on average, 3,200 people a year suffer a Halloween related injury.

• 55% are related to pumpkin carving.
• 25% due to falls while working with decorations, tripping on costumes and walking while trick or treating.
• 19.9% from lacerations related to costumes, pumpkins, decorations, allergic reactions.
• .1% Tripping while frantically running down a concrete driveway after a 20lb pumpkin barks at you.

After your child is tired of walking and has a full pillow case full of candy, make sure to do a quality inspection on the candy. Remove candy that could be a choking hazard, unwrapped candy, suspicious looking candy, and candy corn (cause its gross).
