Potential of New COVID Variant
Good morning ya'll!!
I am not sure if any of you have read, or heard, about the new COVID variant that might be spreading around.
I have been told by people in our office that some of our customers might be going back to their mask mandates for their facilities.
I did bring this up in our management meeting this morning as a "heads up" sort of thing.
Are there any talks in your area(s) of the potential of COVID protocols making a comeback?
I greatly appreciate your time with any response you might have.

We re-instituted masking and most of our other protocols last week. As a caveat, we're hospital. When we rescinded the masking requirement earlier this year, we set criteria for doing so.
One of the metrics we track are staff out of work with COVID. We recently crossed our threshold for this measure and so we are taking action to mitigate.
This makes sense for us, because staff out of work exacerbates the existing staff shortage which in turn affects the greater population that we serve.
For other industries or even other hospitals the threshold for re-instating pandemic protocols may be higher or lower.

Just when you think you can relax!
I am getting another shot as soon as the new variant vaccine is available! I am 69. I tangled with Covid once. Luckily, I was not sick enough to go in the hospital, but kicked my butt for a month, and coughed for three! I am fairly sure without the first two shots, it could have been much worse.
This one will be #4.

Our Occ Health people monitor case levels for our people. We are still pretty low, although our Occ Health Director caught it last week.
Hoping we don't have to go back to mask mandates.

I don't want to discount the ones that were extremely sick with Covid, although I think most of it was mishandled medically.
This is never going to go away and most of the information that we know has come out, all the policies put in place are simply not effective anymore much less at the beginning.
We need to remember that if you're not well, stay home period. That is basic hygiene, but most US companies penalize employees for missing no matter the reason. We have got to get away from that!!!

Companies and regulators I speak with on a regular basis are familiar with the noise on the horizon. If there's a "this time around" I think we will see more policy and public response based on Great Barrington Declaration principles and the previously-muted insights of thinkers like Bhattacharya.
