Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign runs from August 17th through September 5th. A blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher exponentially increases risk. Because of this, it’s illegal to drive with a BAC of .08 or higher in all 50 states. Except in Utah, where the BAC limit is .05. Make smart choices before you start your day/night of fun.

-Plan your ride home before you start the party, choose a non-drinking friend as a designated driver.
-If someone you know has been drinking, do not let that person get behind the wheel. Take their keys and help them arrange a sober ride home.
-If you drink, do not drive for any reason. Call a friend, request an Uber/Lyft, find a different way home.
-Wear a seatbelt during your ride home. It’s the best defense against impaired drivers.

There were 6,230 alcohol related crashes in Wisconsin last year. Alcohol related crashes accounted for more than 25% of all traffic fatalities in Wisconsin.

During Labor Day weekend in 2021, there were 531 crash fatalities nationwide, 41% of those involved drunk drivers.

Driving sober isn’t only for alcohol use. Wisconsin has seen an increase in crashes involving drugs. There were 732 crashes involving drugs in 2012 compared to 1,821 in 2022. If you suspect a driver is impaired, safely gather as much info as you can about the vehicle, driver, and location. Then call 911.

Did you know Wisconsin DOT created a Drive Sober App? It includes an option that uses GPS to provide contacts for nearby taxi, mass transit, and designated driver services. There’s no excuse to drive under the influence.
