How long do you generally stay with a company?
My guess is that safety pros generally stay at a company between 3-5 years on average - curious to hear if that prediction is true.
If you do end up jumping around, let us know why (feel free to comment anonymously).

I moved every 1 to 2 years when I first got into the field. I did the 29 year allegiance to the Fire Department. Now it is trying to find a company that fits well, pays well and treats employees well. Contract work doesn't help for stress when you are at the end and wondering if you will have a job. All fun things I have learned in the Safety world.

I spent 2 years at my last position. I liked it but my wife and I wanted to move closer to family. Now that we achieved that goal and I found a company I enjoy working for, I am looking to move into that >10 years category!

Would've stayed at my last place if I'd had been paid my worth and boss wasn't awful. Once i find a place that pays/treats me well, I'm happy to stay where i'm at indefinitely.
But I'm not interested in climbing the management ladder either. Folks who tend to jump around often are looking for growth.

I am a Baby Boomer and when I graduated from college in 1976, I wanted to find a great company and stay with them the rest of my working like. When all was said and done and I retired from full time work, I had been with the first company 14 years, the next 5 years, and the last one 23 years (although the last was with the same facility but we got purchased by larger corporations twice the last one 17 years I was with). In my career we had one major family move from South Central Michigan to North East Wisconsin (in 1990). When we moved here we fell in love with the Lakeshore (of Lake Michigan). and never wanted to move again! Really limited my move up the Corporate Ladder with the last corporation as being flexible was very important to management development. I was not happy with their stance personally but understood why as was I was in HR.
My son-in laws are somewhat different. #1 is in Finance and works a lot with "online businesses" developing software for Finance. He averages about 4-5 years per his employer but does much of his work online so he can physically live almost anywhere. Son-in-Law #2 is from the traditional manufacturing business as a procurement supply chain manager. He has been with the company that makes Black outboard motors in Fond-Du-Lac. He has been there 17 years. Son-in-Law #3 makes a heck of a living on Baseball and other Sports Cards on E-bay. Daughter #3 is a nurse so he can get his benefits.
All three of them would quite their jobs in a heartbeat if they were at all dissatisfied with the situations. My generation tended to "gutting-it-out"! I envy you younger people!

I’m early in my career and looking for growth. First employer was 2.5 years. Current employer I will have worked for them for 3 years before moving to a bigger city with more employment options for myself and my wife and more cultural and outdoors enrichment for the family. That is our target, and once there, I hope to find a company that I will remain with for the rest of my working life. But, I have some requirements for that lifelong assignment and would be happy to move around a few times within that job market in order to find the right fit for me and the employer
A bit late to this question, but I would ask another poll that references time at an employer.
What caused you to leave your current employment to another employer? Pay/salary, upward growth, career development, change of industry/working environment...all comes to my mind.
