Salary increase after becoming ASP/CSP certified?
Hi everyone, curious if anyone attempted to negotiate a salary increase after obtaining their ASP or CSP certification. If so, did you ask for a specific percentage?
I do realize there are many factors that go into a salary increase, but my inquiry is specific to salaries after obtaining the certification. Feel free to email me at jaragaki@unum.com if you prefer.

No I did not (recent CSP), though I know some companies will build certifications into pay bands and work the pay increase through that.
Maybe check with your HR dept? I think they should give you an increase since the CSP makes you more hirable. Would assume they wouldn't want to lose you to another company.

If you are asking for a pay raise for a certification you pursued your self, you have to sell that value to the company. if not are you doing it for them or your self? plan and talk to your employer to see about getting buy in or support early to relieve the awkward asking part. If they perceive it as a threat to extort or leave then it might be in your interest to expand your searches.
Some Companies get it and Some don't

I work for a small local city government and I did not receive any compensation for my SMS certification. It was part of my initial job description and I was required to get it within my first year (although it took me almost 2-1/2 years... that's a longer story for another day).
Some companies do give a bump in pay for earning a degree and/or achieving a safety certification. Good luck Joshua!!!
