Is it recordable?
Employee got dust in their eye. Used an eyewash and solution and claimed to be fine. After work they went to the clinic and the clinic used a cotton swap to remove any remaining dust. Per OSHA, anything other than irrigation or use of cotton swap is treatment past first aid. Does that make this not recordable?

Correct. It's not recordable.

Correct unless eyedrops were applied by the doctor.

Again Dr. Hinton (Drew) is right on!
OSHA has switched back and forth on dilation of the eyes. Back in 70s and 80s it’s like it is now. But for a time in the 90s they said if the dilation drops were a Rx for anything it was a recordable. Then they came out and said drops used for merely for dilation Rx or not was not a recordable. But for anything else recordable, as Drew said.

I believe the cotton swab does not present as medical treatment in OSHA's eyes. When I used to work in a small machine/weld/electric motor repair facility. Flashburns always drove me nuts b/c if a welder did get flashburned then it always led to an Rx. If a mechanic got a metal chip in their eye and the doctor had to use the metal magnet tool...then it's recordable.
