Business names
Thinking ahead to the future and prospective names for a safety consulting Business. If you started your own company, how did you come up with a name. Are there resources I should be aware of? Current brainstorm with my wife:
Safety Savvy
Stately Safety
Compliance Consultants
I’m not happy with these. I can’t find a name that’s both memorable and communicates the objective of the company.

Our company name originated from my wife and kids' initials. Overall, you want something easy to say and remember. I've gotten feedback from our customers that they didn't like companies with names that are 4 or 5 words long.
Just check with your state and ensure the name isn't already taken.

Do you have a niche you'll be focusing on? I actually feel like the company name isn't as important as people think - just make sure the domain name is available for your website. namecheap.com is what I use to check / purchase domain names.

Mine is the first two letters of my first name and the first three of my last name.
Like David said, having a simple domain name was important to me (not sure how important it actually is, but it was a key consideration for me).
In my opinion, some of it depends on the goals of your practice. Are you going to be solo and plan on staying solo? If so, a lot of the "experts" say to stick with your name as your company name. I had read books such as Alan Weiss' Consulting Bible that gave advice. This article is similar

Ours is straight forward - Compliance Training Online. Maybe it could have added Safety in there, but we have a few courses that aren't safety related.
Although I have owned businesses in other industries, and these have had meaning behind it.
On approach is to have the name so direct that no one can question what you do. I can't tell you how many times I've seen businesses miss label themselves and I have no clue what they do until I talk with them.
But I also feel from a creative standpoint, there should be something more that makes you stand out and make it yours.
Have you considered talking with a branding specialist?
If you want to stay away from the creative aspect, but still differentiate yourself, what about something like Neely Safety Consultants?

Are you focusing on a niche, or is it general safety compliance? In marketing it's always best to have an angle, something that differentiates you from a competitor

I struggled with my name too! So I asked my wife.
My real name is Thomas Fitzgerald. When I was a little boy my family and friends always called me "Tommy". At about 8 I started playing Little League baseball. There were two other "Tommys" on the team, so the coach started to call me, "Fitz". Both my parents were in the Army together and my mom would call my dad, "Fitz" sometimes. By the time I was in high school my family called me "Tom" (although an Aunt called me Tommy till I was 50 and she passed). But to all the males in my life that were not family I was now "Fitz" all the time! Same in college and my career. At first I did not like "Fitz", after all Bradly was Brad, Robert was Bob, and Michael was Mike! My name was Thomas or I preferred Tom, but called "Fitz". Did not seem fair.
But over the years I just got used to it. Now I don't really care. Three of my five grandkids call me "Poppa Fitz!"
So I really struggled with a name. so asked my wife of 45 years. She immediately said, "Safety Fitz" with a tag line, "Where Safety Fits!" I loved it immediately! So Safety Fitz LLC was born. If you cannot beat them you might as well join them right?
I am fine one to talk but I think "Safety" is over used. It means one thing to me as a Baby Boomer and something else to the following generations. I was a "Safety Guy" for half my career of 50 years. I do not think you would like that term to describe your job, but maybe so. My niche is helping poor HR and other non-educated OHS people about building H&S Culture, just being tossed into the role. I understand what you mean by "Compliance" but "non-OHS' may say or think, "Compliant to What?"
I really love Drew's Cindy's, Branden's, and Tim's advice! If you have a niche or something unique to you, name you business accordingly, bottom line! How many "Fitz's" you know?
