Study tools & help preparing for CSP
I've signed up to take my CSP test before mid August. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for study aids, tools, or classes. The 3 people I've talked to have told me everything they used was of no use or little use to them. If I am going to spend $600-$900 on taking the test I want to make sure I am at least prepared for it. Thanks

Look at the domains on the CSP blueprint, figure out where you need to focus, and then study those specifically. Study for the topic rather than studying for the test. It'll make it a lot easier in the long run.

I used the SPAN training courses and materials for the ASP, CSP, and SMS exams and passed them all on the first try. SPAN training is now owned by clicksafety.com so I don't know if the materials have changed at all but at the time for my learning style they were the best. The reason that I liked the materials that SPAN training had was that they were not there to teach you health and safety. They taught you how to pass a health and safety exam.
I took the BOWEN prep course, which I found helpful. I also bought BCSP's practice exam. When you take your exam, don't get hung up on the math questions...flag and move on.

pocket prep was the cheapest and best for me. daily (5-6/day) quizzes of 10 questions. It helped shore up my knowledge gaps.
I will acknowledge that I took the ASP 2 weeks prior

Good luck! I’m using the SPAN books from 2019. Mine is scheduled for April 11 - going to start studying in the next couple weeks. I’ll keep you posted!

I was successfully first time on both the ASP and CSP exams.
Here are the resources I used"
Safety Professional's Reference and Study Guide, Third Edition
CSP Comprehensive Practice Exam Secrets Study Guide: CSP Test Review for the Certified Safety Professional Exam (Mometrix Secrets Study Guides)
CSP10 Examination Study Guide, 7th Edition, ASSP
OSHA Technical Manual

Pocket Prep App
Here's how I studied:
1. Take a practice test. Both the ASSP and the Mometrix books have practice test. Use one of these test to figure out where you need to study. There is no sense in studying things you already know. Only study subjects that you did poorly on in the practice test.
2. Schedule time to study each day. I would schedule an hour a day during the week to study.
3. Use evidence based study techniques. Here is a good article in things that really work when studying.

4. Use pocket prep app to test yourself. Use the stats page in the app to let you know know where to focus your efforts. The app will tell you how well your doing in each domain so you can further focus your studies.
5. When you are consistently hitting 70% in all domains in the pocket prep app, you will likely pass the test.
One other note, the instructions for the test will tell that you will be provided the formulas needed to answer the questions. I found this not to be true. There were several questions that didn't have formulas, especially when dealing with radiation and fall protection.
Good luck and reach out if you need any help.

Hey Brandon, I created a CSP workbook with 75 questions. I've had lots of great reviews with people passing both the ASP and CSP with it. It was created using the latest CSP blueprint and is a fantastic resource to help you study. i only used pocket prep for the ASP and CSP (few weeks apart)
