What's the ratio of safety people to employees
I post this poll about once per year, but I'm always interested to hear how many employees each safety person manages. What's your ratio of safety people to employees?
If you're company of 100 people has two EHS people you would select 1/50. Just answer whichever value is closest. In the comments let us know if you feel like your EHS is understaffed.

My company is very seasonal. I the winter we can have up to 50000 employees. Spring and fall we have under 10000. And some we have about 15000. We have about 60 people in H&S.

We are close to 60 employees at our company. I was once told by an old safety manager of mine that a good ration is 1 safety person per 100 employees. Do ya'll agree?

I am not sure I can answer this now. I supervise one person, ME! My CFO, my wife supervises me too, or tries!
But back in the day, I would have to say >1/500. We had 450 employees, I was the only OHS person and I was half time HR too (I handled Salary Recruiting and WC self insured). So I don’t know what ratio that would be!
In Heaven, or ideally I would say no more than 1/100.
My $.02

We have close to 200 employees with 2 locations. I am the only Safety person.

We have ~260 employees (approximately 200 in the shop and office and 60 in the field). For years it was 1 safety manager until i was brought on to make it 2.

I am the only official Safety person. I work for the fire department and whenever there is a large fire, a representative from our training staff acts as the on site Safety to ensure proper procedures to keep them safe. We also have an Assistant Fire Chief who acts as Camp Safety for Large Wildfires. Since I'm not a firefighter just a 40 hour salary position, I have not been brought into that realm of operations. I deal with how to prevent the injuries based on analytics and what we can incorporate to prevent those injuries. Our biggest being back injuries.

E. Depends on the industry.
Army Corps of Engineers requires one SSHO per every 25 workers. Even if they are all working in the same location? Yes. Others may require, based upon contract considerations 1:50 or 1:100. The key is not how many safety professionals are on a site. The key is how much safety do the front line supervisors practice?
Safety is not a safety driven mechanism. Safety is a management driven, employee engagement mechanism. So the whole idea of needing X number of safety personnel is the wrong approach IMHO.

750 workers. 10 safety and 8 IH in the field. In my previous job I was one safety for all 95 workers.

All our sites on average about 1 dedicated HSE representative per 100-150 employees
However, we offset with site leadership being very active in HSE as well as employees responsibility.
The load is shared.
A few sites don't have a dedicated HSE or is an extra role. Those sites have less than 40 employees.
