Safety Degree
Hi all, I was recently laid off from my job due to budget cuts. As I’m trying to find a new position, I thought it would be good to go back to school and finish my degree. Does anyone have any recommendations on colleges with online safety programs? Preferably associate degree

I'm on the OSH Advisory Board at both Capitol Technology University and Columbia Southern University. Both have great programs and were actively working on adding new degree programs to the list.
I also teach masters and doctoral-level courses at Capitol Tech, but got my bachelors and masters from Columbia Southern, so if you need input on how courses are structured at either one, let me know.

System says you are in PA. I do not know your ed program there. If you are laid off the first place I would try is your local Junior College "Ju Co" or Tech College. In WI we have a Technical College System and a UW system (that has several 2-year programs close by). Most of these "Ju Cos" have financial aid and offer classroom, online, web conferencing, an hybrids (combo classes). Many programs are geared to the unemployed. Every program has "Gen Eds" (writing, math, and the like) you need to take so start with those so they can transfer if you find a program somewhere else later. Ju Cos are considerably cheaper then any private and most public 4-year schools!
If you have been out of school for sometime, it takes a lot of internal fortitude to get back into school! I would urge you to consider classroom to start and transition to online unless you are very much self-disciplined. If I was to go back for a PhD or JD I would have to start classroom. No way could I jump in after 25 years and just go online after giving out assignments not taking them on! For me, online has always been harder, taking and giving. Just my $.02 a Baby Boomer.
