In the weeds
Safety/IH pros, when discussing noise controls to employees, have you ever tried to discuss the inverse square law? How understanding the concept can provide individuals a better idea of noise propagation and what that means for their exposure. I have tried a few different approaches and I'm curious to know if anyone else has tried to get into the weeds with this one.
Two of my favorite interactions were showing employees what their real time sound pressure levels were, doubling their distance from the source, and watching their reaction when I told them what their new exposure was going to be, prior to measuring it.
I think it worth the time to explain the workings of exposure to your folks. Make it fun and engaging! They will never forget it and they will be better able to understand and mitigate their exposure. That's a win in my book. 👌

I've done it for a few customers. Even taking a sound level meter out to show them the levels at various distances from the noise source makes a big difference to see it actually put into play.

Oh WoW! I need to teach that too!? I barely understand it myself little lone explain it to someone else! I am only half kidding!
