Confined Spaces, Egress, and Crane Question
We have a large mixing tank that is pretty deep. Our maintenance doesn't have to enter the confined space often, maybe 1-2 x per year. Two employees go down using a ladder that hooks to the side of the tank, and then a tackle that weighs several hundred pounds is lowered down and the two employees have to kind of guide it onto where it is placed on the floor of the tank. There isn't anywhere that my employees can attach to with a life line. They do the gas detection, etc. And I am not comfortable with what they are using to lower the tackle down with. My maintenance supervisor wanted to use an arm beam that would support both the tackle and the employees, but it would have to be a swivel arm to pick up the tackle piece and that is no bueno and I said not a good idea. We have very limited space and i have a few ideas but wanted to get some advice from some of our resident experts on what I should purchase for this tank???

Do you have any pictures of this tank? It's kind of hard to say without seeing the space.

Is there an overhead beam or anything over the tank you can weld an anchor point to?
