What % of your job deals with environmental?
Curious how much you guys deal with environmental? I’m about 50/50 split between environmental and safety but (obviously) enjoy doing the safety work much more

We have a separate team that handles environmental and that makes me happy as I don't like environmental.

I run away form E as if there was an old Grizzly on my 6! I always figured I had enough on my plate with the HR in front of the Safety or H&S that I did not need the E! To much yucky stuff and science in the E for me! My college roommate was a Chem Eng major. He graduated from Mich State with a 2.0 GPA (it is one of the hardest Engineering majors). Anyways with a GPA like that he had a tough time finding a entry-level job in industry. His was from the UP (Upper Peninsula) and his dad knew a lot of local politicians. Somehow he got a job with the Michigan DNR. On his second day on the job (1978) was given the task of writing all the land-fill regulations for the state of Michigan, because none of the tenured state engineers would touch the political hot-potato! So he did, he called every State and Canadian Province DNR and wrote the policy for Michigan using the best and disregarding the worst ideas. After his rules were put into law he became a consultant! Retired a multi multi millionaire at age 45.
In the late 80s and early 90s manufacturing companies started splitting Safety away from Personnel. I never heard of an EHS Manager or even HR Manager till around 1995. To me in manufacturing the more Personnel became HR, the more the term Safety Manager, changed to EHS Manager and was and the two became separated. Most of my HR peers run away from H&S and for sure E, especially if they are younger than their late 40s.

I quit my last job to focus solely on heath and safety :) no more environmental for me :)
