Active Shooter/Aggressor Preparedness
In light of the Walmart mass shooting this morning, which is the 602nd mass shooting in the US in 2022, what type of training does your organization do?
• Classroom only?
• Practical scenarios/exercises?
• Tabletop exercises?
• Other?

E-learning, but sadly at this point we may want to start doing classroom or scenario style training.

We have a e-learning module, a toolbox talk module and are currently working on table top exercises at all locations.

I have learned a lot from transitioning from Public Safety Training (police, Fire, EMS) for active shooter training and response. The Public Sector does not respond as well to Hi-Fidelity training. I had to change a lot of my actual training language and videos that I used, as some deemed them as not appropriate for work places.
I coordinated and conducted multi agency active shooter drills that required months of planning. Finding quality workplace training is hard to do.
Knowing the audience is the key

Since my office was the second door in the hallway of the Main Employee Entrance and we had little security if any at the plant, I was always concerned about this, back in the day! As an HR/Safety Manager I got several threats in my career. One of the things I had going for me, is I am 6'4" and played basketball 4 times a week, so I was in pretty good shape, and one on one, I know how to defend myself. They do not call me "Elbows Fitz" for nothing at the Y! I was one of the first to get a CCP in WI ten years ago, and I am not a big gun proponent. However, we had plant rules about firearms in the plant. I could keep a gun if I kept it locked in my truck while on CO Property in this state because of the CCP, but it could not leave the truck.
In any case, since I could not carry a gun in the plant, I had one of my daughter's high school softball bats under my desk. My boss saw it one time, and asked, "Is that a weapon? You know you cannot have that in the building?" I replied, "Oh it is not a weapon. The PM has a football in his office! That is sports memorabilia too, my daughter hit a home run with it!" She replied, "Good answer, maybe I should get some spots memorabilia too?" I replied, "Since your door is first, I would. If you cannot flee you got to fight!"
I agree with the others, finding good training on this topic is very difficult!
