KPI - Key Performance Indicator!
Hi everyone!
I am developing a weekly KPI! What are some topics you have included in yours for team review/focused planning/leading & lagging indicators?
The purpose is to drive awareness and stay on track with ongoing improvements!
Thanks

Do you guys submit safety observations and near misses? Those are both great metrics to pull trends from - not sure if you could make them into a KPI though
Risk Perception

How about Near Miss Reports? I am convinced if you could devise a way to capture all Near Misses you could make more money than Elon Musk! No doubt about it! Many of you up and coming EHS pros would have to find other careers cause we will not need as many of you any longer! Then HR Weenies like me could do your job along with ours as EHS would be easier. The people that are more into the E and IH are relatively safe. We HR people don't care particularly like Safety, but we HATE IH and especially the "E"!
The second way you could become as rich as Oprah would be to invent a pair of water & chemical repellant and cut-resistant gloves that would still allow machinists and skilled trades people to have that "machinist touch" or manual dexterity!
I got more!

All kidding aside. I could never sell my management on this idea. But I tried several times. I almost had them sold, and then I decided to retire from the company (not for the field). This is it:
Give employees points for Safety Participation. You will have to work out the point system but you could weight them too. Points for:
Completing their required Safety Training, extra credit for non-required training.
ACTIVE participation on Teams!
Near Miss submissions (with an immunity clause within reason).
Safety Suggestions (I am sorry I am old school, still like those, your Maintenance Dept will hate them).
"Kudos to You" (We had a program that if a Manager, Supervisor, Safety Team, Member, or just an employee saw someone doing something "safe" they got a 'Kudos to You' token. You took it to HR and you got a Kudos bar!
BBS Cards (STOP).
And it goes on, only limited by your imagination.
We would have several prizes employees could earn depending on their point total.
My Senior Management would always say, "Why are we paying for things that are part of their job requirements?"

One I think everyone should focus on is a KPI focused on how well an organization closes out actions from incident investigations, audits, etc. I have simply called it follow-up% and have integrated it into performance appraisals for those responsible for closing them out.

I have developed a few KPIs for our startup. I aim to get 7 safety observations from the team each month. Also completed safety inspection (goal is 100%). I tend to stay away from lagging indicators (like injury rate) as they are proactive stats to track. What other ones did you guys come up with?
