Consultants: have you ever reached out to your local retail stores to assist with exit route safety
Posted a retail safety poll on LinkedIn this morning, but wanted to open up a discussion here as well. With all the exit route fines being dished out to retail stores, have any of you ever reached out to your local retail stores to offer your assistance? I’m not a consultant but it seems like it would be a pretty easy gig. Thoughts?

I was in a farm/feed/hardware store a couple years ago and saw three workers standing on the top shelf of some large racks building dog and farm animal cages. They were 10’ off the floor with no fall protection of any kind. Two were working on the edge of the plywood floor of the racking. I asked them to get down but they just ignored me. That made me angry so I went to the front of the store and asked for the store manager immediately. Soon he came out and I said, “Look I am a Health and Safety Consultant, you have three employees 10’ in the air without any fall protection. I asked them to get down and they blew me off!” He says, “They are supposed to be in Personal Fall Arrest gear!” I immediately replied, “Well they are not, if any fall or I was an OSHA inspector you would be in trouble!” We went back and he got them down. I didn’t expect a monetary reward or anything but he looks at me, shakes his head and just walks away. Not even a thanks.
