So the mill I am interning at is closing down in 60 days but the regional manager still wants me to spot issues. Plus, get them fixed… so here is an area that was pointed out to me that when the worker is fixing messed up boards in the deep pile they sometimes get struck by stickers on the top rack. I was thinking a guide the size of a toe board would work but what are y’all’s thoughts?

Do you know where they’re getting struck? I know PPE is the last resort but might make sense for them to wear hard hats in the area? I’m sure there’s also an engineering control that would work too - which part of the machine is the top rack?

I've worked In a saw mill and I'm an unclear what exactly this process is outlining.
Can you please start with the upstream process and more context to the issue and then the downstream process. These things would help to figure out possibly what might help to prevent hang ups and upset conditions and highlight desired outcomes and lost time i know safety is increased in these setting when lost time and upset conditions are reduced and often the issue is upstream from the actual issue.
Considering the plant will close soon, it is unlikely they will invest much. Look for a long tool that will help them teach the jam and keep them from getting close to the boards. Your guide idea is good. That would be a great start.
