Categorizing near misses
Does anyone categorize near misses based on severity? There’s a huge window that encompasses what constitutes a near miss per the OSHA definition so I wanted to see if anyone has an internal categorization for different near misses. If so feel free to share your system

We don't categorize them based on severity. We categorize them (along with our incidents) based on type. So like equipment, propety damage, utility, tool, fire, etc. So at the end of the year we take a look at which categories have the most near misses to figure out which categories we need to focus on mitigating.

Not on severity, but you would fix the near-miss sooner if the severity was identified and higher than others.

I have removed the term “near miss” from my vocabulary. It is a controllable event or it’s not.
