Leadership
I have a question… how do you approach a leader to create buy-in of a change if they have already shown a closed off stance to other things you have shown them? Or if they seem to not like you. I personally struggle with certain types of people and want to improve in this area.

It is not an easy task. The most important thing is that the leader, himself, wants to change the way to improve the safety culture. If he does not really want to himself, you will never achieve success. Then, first of all, you must show him those facts that can change his perception and values of him.

If you’re struggling just be assertive. Drop the niceties on the emails and be blunt, get the point across. If you’re struggling to get stuff done I don’t think it will hurt to switch up your communication style

I would try to create a relationship with that person first. Don’t ask them for anything but get close to them, ask about family, what they do on the weekends, etc. if they are a grumpy old man, ask them what their grandkids call them? Heard this recently on Twitter from Camille O.
After you create a relationship, get the data together on why you need the change- metrics, money saved , ROI, etc.
