Leveling up your project management skills
I wanted to get a thread going about best practices for managing large projects. Projects can get tricky, especially when you have deadlines to hit and multiple contractors working around each other. What do you do to make sure people are kept safe and the project goes smoothly.
I think it helps to get your contractors and subcontractors into a routine, especially if the project is multiple days. That way when they come in, they know they need to check in for the morning tailgate (or equivalent).

Beat advice I can give about complex projects with numerous people is you have to have great communication. Have 1 information flow, everyone knows who they need to speak to, so messages can be easily relayed. When you add too many people to reporting chain, or people don't know who to report to, that's when all hell tends to break loose. Keep it simple when it comes to communication hierarchy to avoid confusion.

Spreadsheet, checklists, and templates. We've developed job info sheets that are sent to all different department managers every time a project starts. It includes everything that is needed. Safety, lists of exact supplies, contact info, form and meeting requirements, etc. So every time a project starts we just go down the checklist, fill in the templates, and send it out to everyone. Further communication about the project takes place in project specific group chat.
