What are the most effective ways to tie off during scaffold erection.
OSHA states in 1926.451(g)(2) that “the employer shall have a competent person determine the feasibility and safety of providing fall protection for employees erecting and dismantling supported scaffolds. Employers are required to provide fall protection for employees erecting or dismantling supported scaffolds where the installation and use of such protection is feasible and does not create a greater hazard.”
Scaffold bucks can only be used as anchor points if the contractor recieves a letter from the manufacturer that they can withstand 5,000 pounds of force.
My question is, say that the scaffold bucks cannot be used as anchor points, are there any alternatives for 100% tie off?

In my experience the scaffold builders use the scaffold rosettes, or cross beams once they are installed. Shouldn’t be an issue to get manufacturer ratings.

Depending on where the erection is of course, I've used temporary anchors or beam clamps. Sometimes we use a reach lift or scissor lift. We've had to be creative in those situations, sometimes there is no obvious tie off point.
