I have yet to find a consistent handheld temperature gun for non-contact measurements
Anyone have any recommendations? I've tried about 6 different models at this point, and so far all of them have been inconsistent. I've found a few of them work well for about 2 weeks, then start getting inconsistent (+/- 5 deg F). We have quite a few people using them so they are getting a little beat up (which is probably why they aren't lasting long), but I wanted to see if you guys can recommend any good ones.

That is because almost all of the temperature guns are meant to be used in a controlled environment. (inside) When we took temperatures we had this problem. One model worked better than most called the "Jumper".
One thing that helped was having a heated space nearby where extra were kept in the heat. Tossing a hand warmer in your pocket to keep the device warm in between screenings was helpful too.
Most temp guns are inconsistent even the most expensive one can be but other factors play parts in the readings to like space between the gun and the surface your getting the reading on temperature in the room or are your taking the reading and making sure the lenses are clean temperature changes if you are using it for people temps are rarely the same
I use connect-me gun. They are fast and accurate.
This is something that it might be worth starting a database of how well these units work - or at least a list.
I'll have to get the unit numbers, but the one that we have for the Scout Troop is hit or miss. Our local church uses one - but the irony was lost on the person at the door when I said that they had tested our whole family and declared us hypothermic and in need of hospital based warming.
The music school that my kids go to for lessons uses them as part of the screening process and again like everywhere else, it is hit or miss. Multiple attempts to get readings and I've been hearing readings in the 96-97 range (with a couple lower).
I always ask when I go somewhere that takes readings. I'll start asking for manufacturer and model number.
