At what point should aluminum extension ladder be take out of service?
We have a fairly old extension ladder with the manufacturers label still intact and legible. It’s starting to show signs of rusting on the outer rail of the ladder, but seems pretty sturdy otherwise. I’m wondering at what point a ladder should be taken out of service? Is even a little sign of rusting too much?

I agree surface rust is no biggie however and dents or damage makes it useless. Aluminum is a soft metal and cannot be compromised that way.

As long as it’s just surface rust it should be fine if it is showing signs of pitting cracks component thinning dew to wear and rusting remove it from service
