Safety incentive program
My company usually has a summer program to focus on safety items like 5s and safety saves. I believe that’s good but I am needing to focus on building the culture. I’m planning on making my own program that focuses on rewarding and recognizing good safety practices and behaviors. I want to focus on the good and not on the bad. But still correct issues when we see them. My plan is to take pictures with the associate who was discovered doing good. Then reward them with a small item of thanks and then post the picture to our communication board. I’m seeking help on naming the good behavior incentive program. Any ideas???

Hey Erik, I think that’s a great initiative - Love the positive feedback loop your trying to implement. I’m horrible with program names, but maybe something like “Safety Observation of the Month”. I’m sure someone will think of something better
Erik,
We use the name "Safety Champion" and try to award someone on a weekly basis. For smaller sites this is difficult but could be turned into a monthly or quarterly acknowledgement. We don't give out items, but we invite and recognize them on our weekly all hands safety call. In addition to this, our project manager or job site lead will buy and have lunch with them and present a paper certificate with their name and the date on it. I think recognition goes a long way and also making them feel like a bigger part of the team seems to be a huge motivator.
Hope this helps!

Erik,
We have a leading indicator committee at my workplace who helps drive these types of initiatives. One of our programs is called "My Safety". Employees who participate in a documented leading indicator activity receive positive recognition. Employees may also recognize their peers for what we call an "act of kindness" and those who are nominated by their peers are also recognized. The name "My Safety" is rooted in the fact that we're all safety leaders, it takes everyone working together to create a culture where we actively care for others and put aside our pride.
We prefer names that relate to ownership or involvement such as "My Safety". Either way, I think you're group is on the right track!
Michael
Hi Erik, We do exactly that and as someone has already mentioned ours is simply called "Safety Observation of the Month". However to remove any bias and further encourage all employees to participate in the program it is a monthly draw at random from everyone who has raised an observation in that month. We take pictures and display on TVs around site etc.
On a side note... does anyone have any ideas for safety, environmental or Wellbeing prizes?
