Brag a bit
Hello,
Although there are many philosophies about safety ranging from the Human Performance model to BBS, a common theme is the focus on what's working. Numerous studies have shown that world class safety programs have a focus on identifying what IS working and growing out from there, rather than a focus on identifying everything that is WRONG and trying to fix it.
In that spirit I am curious...
What is the feature of your safety program that your are proudest of?
What makes it so effective?
What have you learned from managing this system that we as professionals can learn from to improve our own systems?
No wrong answer, brag a bit! I'd love to hear more about what is working, how it works, and what I can take from that to improve my own programs.
Thanks in advance.

I incorporate character strength building (including subsequent data collection and behavior outcome tracking) into safety classes in my role as Safety Manager for the Mayor's Office in Atlanta. Outside that role, my consulting business uses an indirect integration method to incorporate such a strategy for organizational development.
John,
Great post. My team and myself implemented a stretch & flex program at a few of our sites (available company wide, but voluntary). The job sites are rather small (20-40 employees) so gathering data on improved strains and sprains numbers is pretty hard to do, but I can tell you that when I visit I can see a huge differences in pre-shift communication and morale between all employees involved. The outcome can vary depending on participation and that ties right back into how standard safety programs work. If you know, understand and trust the program; 9/10 times its going to be effective.
I'm a Navy Seabee veteran, so stretching has been a huge part of my daily routine. Warm up before you hit the job for a safety walk down!

Love this thread, great opportunity for others to learn what’s working in other companies and industries.
We implemented a new near miss, accident, and spill tracking system. The system keeps track of all reported incidents and shows which ones have been closed out, and which ones still need corrective action. Having everything in one data store allows us to generate analytics to see which departments are submitting the most incidents, which have the fastest turn around time from submission to close, etc.
