
How involved are you guys with employee drug testing?
Substance abuse on the job is an immediate safety concern, but I feel like drug testing/counseling is typically a responsibility reserved for Human Resources. That’s been my experience at least.
How involved are you guys with drug testing? My feeling is that safety professionals should be able to recommend drug tests, but the test results and necessary counseling should be taken care of by HR. What are your thoughts? There seems to be a lot of interesting cross over between HR and safety so I wanted to see what it’s like at your companies.

I test the drugs out with my employees....just kidding. It's typically an HR function
As an HSE Coordinator it is my job to coordinate with new hires and current employees to coordinate drug tests. This includes pre employment and randoms ( NON DOT and DOT). If a test comes back positive I will contact HR and protocols will be followed.
