Are contractors allowed to use company fire extinguishers?
Would there be any rule prohibiting a contractor being able to use a company owned fire extinguisher?
https://www.osha.gov/laws-regs/regulations/standardnumber/1910/1910.157
I couldn’t find anything in 1910.157 that covers someone using them who is NOT employed by the company that maintains the extinguishers. Anyone have any guidance on that?

everyone allowed o use the safety equipment in case of the need like emergency the question is are they able to use it & trained to choose the correct type?
In my experience as a contractor we are not allowed to use company fire extinguishers for fire watching during hot work. However during an emergency anyone is allowed to use safety devices.
All contractors and company personnel should be trained in proper selection and use of extinguishers during new hire orientation and site orientation. It is also the company’s responsibility to assess the workplace and place the proper type of extinguisher in each area that will accommodate any type of potential fire that may aria in each area.
